Wong #1: Stages of teaching

On our field study class last Wednesday June 27, 2018, we watched a video discussed by Mr. Harry Wong about teaching. Mr. Wong talked about the things that a teacher must grasp in order to be an effective teacher. The role of a teacher is to let students learn and develop their own abilities by guiding them throughout the process. However, teaching is not just all fun. Teachers also encounter hardships besides teaching their learners especially on their early years of teaching. In the said video, he discussed stages of teaching that a teacher experience on their journey on becoming one of the acknowledged teachers in the future.

(REALITY)

The first stage was "fantasy".  In this stage, teachers are very idealistic about teaching, they'll imagine students who are really cooperative and eager to learn, lessons going smooth as what he/she planned and a lot of good things they can imagine happening in a classroom. Though these things might happen in reality, teachers must remember to expect the unexpected as opposite of the things mentioned above might happen instead.

After fantasizing, a teacher realizes that ideals are just ideals and things may not come as what they wanted so they'll find ways to just survive the day. With this, our next stage is born which is the "survival" stage. On this stage most teachers really lean on books, quizzes, exams, lectures given after each lessons to survive the day. This method makes things boring so while at this stage teachers must discover things that can attract the attention of students. They should make each lesson interesting, for the students to understand lessons   and be able to interact with one another more.

There's always a rainbow after every rain. After the struggles on the stages of teaching, through time and experience, teachers will eventually master their subject and they'll be able to have good classroom management making it possible for them to teach well and be known in the future. Teachers should also remind themselves to always let their students flourish their full potential by guiding them on every step of the way.
